HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus overview
HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus is a flexible 2U, single-socket rack server for workloads that need high AMD EPYC core density, large DDR4 memory capacity, PCIe Gen4 expansion and strong local storage flexibility. As an HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus 2U rack server, it is based on AMD EPYC 7003 Series processors, with selected AMD EPYC 7002P options, HPE DDR4 Smart Memory and HPE iLO 5 management.
The HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus server is suitable for virtualization, containers, databases, data management, software-defined storage, backup infrastructure, high-performance computing, memory-centric workloads and selected GPU-accelerated workloads. It should be treated as a purpose-built 1P AMD platform, not as a dual-socket Intel replacement. Compared with older Gen10 platforms, DL345 Gen10 Plus brings AMD EPYC 7003 support, DDR4 memory speeds up to 3200 MT/s and PCIe Gen4 I/O.
When to choose HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus
Choose HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus when the workload needs a 2U single-socket AMD EPYC server with high core count, large memory footprint and flexible local storage. It is a good fit for virtualization hosts, private cloud nodes, containers, analytics, memory-heavy applications, backup repositories and storage-oriented infrastructure where CPU cores, RAM, drive layout and network options must be balanced carefully.
Compared with a 1U AMD server such as HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 Plus v2 8SFF, the HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus provides more physical space for front drive bays, rear drive options, airflow and serviceability. Compared with a dual-socket AMD platform such as HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus, it is better when one EPYC processor provides enough compute and the project prioritizes cost, storage density and platform simplicity.
The HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus configuration should be validated for processor choice, memory population, chassis type, drive cage layout, storage controller, risers, OCP or stand-up NICs, power supplies, fan kits and cooling. This is especially important for 12LFF, 24SFF, 24NVMe, rear 2SFF, 280W CPU, NVIDIA A10 GPU, 100/200GbE, InfiniBand and tri-mode storage configurations. If the project requires a newer AMD storage platform, compare with HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen11; if it requires Intel-based 2U infrastructure, compare with HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus.
Chassis and drive bay options
HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus supports several 2U chassis and drive bay layouts. The right option depends on whether the server is configured for virtualization, local capacity, dense SSD storage, NVMe performance, backup or software-defined storage.
| Chassis option | Best for | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus 8SFF | Virtualization, business applications and SSD-focused workloads | Starts with 8 SFF SAS/SATA bays and can be expanded with additional SFF or NVMe drive cage options in supported configurations. |
| HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus 24SFF | Dense 2.5-inch SAS/SATA SSD storage and mixed enterprise workloads | Supports up to 24 front SFF drives and optional rear 2SFF drives, for up to 26 SFF drives in supported builds. |
| HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus 8LFF | Capacity-oriented workloads, file services and backup | Useful when 3.5-inch HDD capacity is important. The 8LFF base chassis can be used for capacity-focused AMD EPYC deployments. |
| HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus 12LFF | Large local capacity, backup repositories and archive storage | Can support up to 12 front LFF SAS/SATA drives, up to 240 TB with 12 × 20 TB HDDs in supported configurations. |
| HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus NVMe configurations | Low-latency databases, high-IO virtualization and analytics | Selected SFF configurations can support U.2 or U.3 NVMe, including all-NVMe layouts. Final support depends on drive cages, risers, direct attach or tri-mode design, cabling and fan kit. |
| HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus rear 2SFF / GPU configurations | Boot, cache, log drives, GPU workloads and high-speed networking | Optional rear 2SFF supports SAS/SATA/NVMe depending on configuration. NVIDIA A10 GPU and high-speed adapters require strict riser, cable, power and cooling validation. |
For capacity workloads, LFF configurations are usually the practical starting point. For application responsiveness and virtualization datastores, SFF SSD configurations should be considered. For latency-sensitive databases and high-IO workloads, U.3 or U.2 NVMe configurations are more suitable, but NVMe support should not be assumed from the model name alone.
Final drive compatibility depends on chassis, backplane, drive cage, controller, cables, risers, fan kits, power supplies and HPE support matrix.
Recommended HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus configurations by workload
| Workload | Recommended focus |
|---|---|
| Virtualization / private cloud | High-core AMD EPYC CPU, large DDR4 memory pool, SSD or NVMe where needed, redundant networking and suitable controller choice. |
| Containers / Kubernetes | Balanced CPU and RAM, reliable boot media, local SSD where needed and network bandwidth sized for cluster traffic. |
| Databases / data management | CPU matched to query profile, enough RAM for cache, low-latency SSD or NVMe and protected local arrays. |
| Backup / archive | 8LFF or 12LFF chassis, capacity HDDs and network throughput sized for backup and restore windows. |
| Software-defined storage / HCI | Drive layout, tri-mode controller, HBA/JBOD strategy, network bandwidth and CPU/RAM sized for the selected SDS platform. |
| High-performance computing | High-core or high-frequency EPYC CPU, balanced memory population, PCIe Gen4 networking and validated accelerator options. |
| GPU-accelerated workloads | Validated NVIDIA A10 GPU, power cable, risers, fan kit, ambient temperature limits and memory sizing checked before purchase. |
| Mixed enterprise workloads | Balanced CPU, RAM, storage and NIC choices, with headroom for failover, maintenance, backup and growth. |
The HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus configuration should be chosen around the main reason for selecting this 2U AMD platform: high single-socket core density, DDR4 memory capacity, PCIe Gen4 expansion, flexible SFF/LFF/NVMe storage and proven HPE management.
How to choose CPU, RAM, RAID and storage
HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus supports one AMD EPYC processor, including 7003 Series models up to 64 cores and 280W. Higher core counts help virtualization, containers, analytics and multi-user services, while higher-frequency EPYC F-series CPUs can matter for databases and latency-sensitive workloads. 280W processors require maximum performance cooling, and processors at or above 180W require the high-performance heatsink.
RAM planning should start with VM density, database cache, memory-centric workloads and future growth. DL345 Gen10 Plus supports 16 DIMM slots, 8 memory channels and up to 2 DIMMs per channel. Maximum memory is up to 1 TB with 16 × 64 GB RDIMM or up to 4 TB with 16 × 256 GB LRDIMM. Memory speed can reach 3200 MT/s, but it depends on processor, DIMM type and population.
HPE Smart Storage SR100i Gen10 Plus software RAID supports selected SATA or limited U.3 NVMe boot/data layouts in UEFI mode and supports Microsoft Windows Server only. For Linux, VMware, SAS storage, larger arrays, performance RAID or NVMe/SAS/SATA tri-mode designs, use supported Smart Array, MegaRAID or SmartRAID controllers. Performance controllers require the appropriate Smart Storage Battery or Hybrid Capacitor.
For storage, LFF HDDs are capacity-oriented, SFF SSDs are better for application responsiveness, and U.2/U.3 NVMe is best for low-latency workloads when the selected chassis, drive cage, risers, cables and fan kit support it. Boot media can be separated with NS204i-p NVMe, microSD, USB, M.2 SATA or controller-based options where supported.
HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus vs related HPE models
| Model | When to consider |
|---|---|
| HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 Plus v2 8SFF | Choose DL325 Gen10 Plus v2 when 1U density is more important than 2U storage capacity or broader serviceability. |
| HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus | Choose DL365 Gen10 Plus when a dual-socket AMD EPYC 1U platform is required for higher CPU scale in a dense rack footprint. |
| HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus 8LFF | Choose DL385 Gen10 Plus when a dual-socket AMD EPYC 2U platform is required for higher CPU and memory scale. |
| HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen11 | Consider DL345 Gen11 when a newer AMD EPYC platform with DDR5 memory, PCIe Gen5 and newer storage options is required. |
| HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus | Consider DL380 Gen10 Plus when an Intel-based DDR4 and PCIe Gen4 2U platform is preferred. |
HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus is the right reference point when the requirement is a 2U single-socket AMD EPYC server with strong local storage flexibility. It is not the same platform as DL385 Gen10 Plus and should not be described as a lower-cost equivalent of a dual-socket AMD server.
New and refurbished HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus servers
A refurbished HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus can be a practical production option when it is tested, correctly configured and supplied with warranty.
