HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus overview
HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus is a dense 1U, dual-socket rack server for workloads that need AMD EPYC core density, DDR4 memory, PCIe Gen4 expansion and flexible SFF storage. As an HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus 1U rack server, it is based on 3rd Generation AMD EPYC 7003 Series processors, HPE DDR4 Smart Memory and HPE iLO 5 management.
The HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus server is suitable for virtualization, VDI, containers, databases, cloud infrastructure, HPC, memory-centric workloads, software-defined storage and GPU-accelerated workloads. It is a high-density AMD enterprise platform, not an entry-level server. Compared with earlier Gen10 platforms, it adds AMD EPYC 7003 support, DDR4 speeds up to 3200 MT/s and PCIe Gen4 I/O.
When to choose HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus
Choose HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus when the workload needs a compact 1U dual-socket AMD EPYC platform with high core count, large memory footprint and PCIe Gen4 expansion. It fits virtualization clusters, private cloud nodes, containers, databases, analytics, HPC and infrastructure roles where CPU, RAM, storage and network must be balanced.
Compared with HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 Plus, the HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus provides higher CPU and memory scale in the same 1U class. Compared with HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus, it is better when rack density matters more than local storage or broader serviceability.
The HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus configuration should be validated for CPU choice, memory, backplane, controller, risers, NICs, PSUs, fans and cooling. This is especially important for U.2/U.3 NVMe, 8SFF + 2SFF, 280W CPUs, 100/200GbE, InfiniBand, GPU, 256GB DIMM and tri-mode storage. For more local storage, compare with HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus; for a newer AMD platform, compare with HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen11.
Chassis and drive bay options
HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus supports an 8SFF 1U chassis with optional SFF, NVMe and media bay choices. The right option depends on virtualization, dense compute, SSD storage, NVMe performance, boot separation, VDI or high-speed networking.
| Chassis option | Best for | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus 8SFF | Virtualization, business applications, databases and SSD workloads | Base chassis includes 8 SFF SAS/SATA/NVMe bays and is the main general-purpose layout. |
| HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus 8SFF + 2SFF | Higher SFF density, boot separation, cache and compact SSD storage | Optional +2SFF SAS/SATA/NVMe bays can increase the front drive count to 10 SFF. |
| HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus U.3 tri-mode configurations | Mixed SAS, SATA and NVMe storage | Selected U.3 backplanes support SAS, SATA and NVMe drives; compatibility depends on backplane, controller, cables and fan kit. |
| HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus U.2 NVMe configurations | Low-latency storage, high-IO databases and performance virtualization | Selected SFF configurations support U.2 NVMe direct attach or controller-based designs. U.2 and U.3 kits should not be mixed. |
| HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus GPU and high-speed networking configurations | VDI graphics, AI inference, HPC, 100/200GbE and InfiniBand | GPU, high-speed Ethernet and InfiniBand options require validation of risers, fans, power, DIMMs and inlet temperature. |
For balanced workloads, 8SFF is usually the practical starting point. For latency-sensitive databases, virtualization datastores and high-IO workloads, U.2 or U.3 NVMe should be considered. DL365 Gen10 Plus is SFF-focused; for large LFF capacity, compare with DL345 Gen10 Plus or DL385 Gen10 Plus.
Final drive compatibility depends on chassis, backplane, drive cage, controller, cables, risers, fan kit, power supplies and HPE support matrix.
Recommended HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus configurations by workload
| Workload | Recommended focus |
|---|---|
| Virtualization / private cloud | Dual AMD EPYC CPUs, large DDR4 memory pool, SSD or NVMe where needed, redundant networking and suitable controller choice. |
| VDI | High RAM density, predictable CPU performance, fast storage and validated GPU options where graphics acceleration is required. |
| Containers / Kubernetes | Balanced CPU and RAM, reliable boot media, local SSD where needed and network bandwidth sized for cluster traffic. |
| Databases / data management | CPU matched to query profile, enough RAM for cache, low-latency SSD or NVMe and protected local arrays. |
| High-performance computing | High-core or high-frequency EPYC CPUs, balanced memory population, PCIe Gen4 networking and validated accelerators. |
| Backup / compact storage | 8SFF or 10SFF storage, SSD or SFF HDD where suitable, and network throughput sized for backup windows. |
| Software-defined storage / HCI | Drive layout, tri-mode controller, HBA/JBOD strategy, network bandwidth and CPU/RAM sized for the SDS platform. |
| Mixed enterprise workloads | Balanced CPU, RAM, storage and NIC choices, with headroom for failover, maintenance, backup and growth. |
The HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus configuration should be chosen around: high rack density, dual-socket AMD EPYC compute, DDR4 memory capacity, PCIe Gen4 expansion, flexible SFF/NVMe storage and proven HPE management.
How to choose CPU, RAM, RAID and storage
HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus supports up to two AMD EPYC 7003 Series processors with up to 64 cores per CPU and up to 280W. More cores help virtualization, containers, analytics and multi-user services, while high-frequency EPYC F-series CPUs can matter for databases and latency-sensitive applications. CPUs above 155W require high-performance fans; 280W CPUs require maximum-performance heatsinks.
RAM planning should start with VM density, database cache, memory-centric workloads and growth. DL365 Gen10 Plus supports 32 DIMM slots, 16 per processor, 8 channels per processor and up to 2 DIMMs per channel. Maximum memory is up to 8 TB with 32 × 256 GB LRDIMM, with 3200 MT/s at 1 DPC and 2933 MT/s at 2 DPC for 256GB LRDIMM. With one CPU, only half of the DIMM slots are available.
HPE Smart Storage SR100i Gen10 Plus software RAID supports selected SATA or limited U.3 NVMe layouts in UEFI mode and Microsoft Windows Server only. For Linux, VMware, SAS, larger arrays, performance RAID or NVMe/SAS/SATA tri-mode designs, use supported Smart Array, MegaRAID or SmartRAID controllers. Rome processors do not support tri-mode controllers.
For storage, SFF HDDs are suitable for compact capacity, SFF SSDs are better for responsiveness, and U.2/U.3 NVMe is best for low-latency workloads when backplane, controller, risers, cables and fan kit support it. Boot media can be separated with NS204i-r, NS204i-p NVMe, microSD, USB, M.2 SATA or controller-based options.
HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus vs related HPE models
