Need a technical consultation on choosing a server?
Submit a requestDell PowerEdge T440 16SFF is a storage configuration for the rackable 5U dual-socket Dell PowerEdge T440 tower server. It provides sixteen front-accessible 2.5-inch SFF hot-plug drive bays. It is designed for SMB, ROBO, and departmental workloads that need enterprise storage serviceability in a tower platform.
Key features:
-
Defined drive-bay layout: Sixteen front 2.5-inch SFF bays provide dense, serviceable local storage in the validated server chassis.
-
Drive and backplane support: The defined basket supports SAS and SATA HDD/SSD media. It must not be described as an NVMe basket; NVMe, where offered by the platform, uses another backplane and cabling design.
-
Dell PERC, HBA, and RAID options: Dell-validated PERC and HBA controllers provide hardware RAID or pass-through for SAS/SATA media; PERC S140 covers compatible SATA software RAID. The selected controller and cable set must match the backplane and required RAID level.
-
Serviceability and topology: Front hot-plug carriers allow a supported drive to be replaced without shutting down the server when the operating system, RAID state, and Dell service procedure permit it. Optional BOSS boot media can remain separate from the data drives.
-
Platform and management: The rackable 5U tower platform combines up to two Intel Xeon Scalable processors, DDR4 ECC memory, PCIe Gen3, iDRAC9, Dell OpenManage, and optional BOSS boot storage.
Use cases:
-
Business applications: Suitable for ERP, CRM, collaboration, and line-of-business services that require dependable local storage.
-
Virtualization: Supports virtual machines and infrastructure services with local hot-plug storage matched to the workload.
-
File and shared storage: Provides local capacity for shared business data, departmental repositories, and infrastructure files.
-
Branch and ROBO services: Fits distributed sites that need local directory, security, application, and data services.
Dell PowerEdge T440 16SFF is a serviceable tower SFF configuration for organizations that need sixteen front SAS/SATA bays, hot-plug maintenance, and rack-convertible enterprise infrastructure.
