Need a technical consultation on choosing a server?
Submit a requestDell PowerEdge R440 8SFF is a storage configuration for a dense 1U dual-socket Dell PowerEdge rack server. It provides eight front-accessible 2.5-inch SFF hot-plug drive bays. It is designed for virtualization, databases, and business applications that need dense SAS/SATA SFF storage.
Key features:
-
Defined drive-bay layout: Eight front 2.5-inch SFF bays balance drive density, serviceability, and compact server packaging.
-
Drive and backplane support: The defined basket supports SAS and SATA HDD/SSD media. It must not be described as an NVMe basket; NVMe, where offered by the platform, uses another backplane and cabling design.
-
Dell PERC, HBA, and RAID options: Dell-validated PERC and HBA controllers provide hardware RAID or pass-through for SAS/SATA media; PERC S140 covers compatible SATA software RAID. The selected controller and cable set must match the backplane and required RAID level.
-
Serviceability and topology: Front hot-plug carriers allow a supported drive to be replaced without shutting down the server when the operating system, RAID state, and Dell service procedure permit it. Optional BOSS boot media can remain separate from the data drives.
-
Platform and management: The dual-socket 1U platform combines Intel Xeon Scalable processors, DDR4 ECC memory, PCIe Gen3, iDRAC9, and Dell OpenManage. Optional BOSS provides a separate M.2 boot path.
Use cases:
-
Virtualization: Supports virtual machines and infrastructure services with local hot-plug storage matched to the workload.
-
Business applications: Suitable for ERP, CRM, collaboration, and line-of-business services that require dependable local storage.
-
Databases: Supports transactional and analytical databases with a validated drive layout selected for the required latency and capacity.
-
Branch and ROBO services: Fits distributed sites that need local directory, security, application, and data services.
Dell PowerEdge R440 8SFF is a clearly defined SAS/SATA SFF configuration for organizations that need compact drive density, hot-plug serviceability, and Dell enterprise management.
